Sindhudurg is a major Cashew growing region. To provide vocational training and employment to physically challenged men and women of the region, we have started this CPU. We have our own cashew trees and we also buy raw cashew from the market. The cashew is processed and sold under ‘Lajawab’ brand. There is good demand for our cashew in Mumbai, Kolhapur and Sindhudurg.

At present there are 13 staff and 30 trainees, most of them physically challenged. More persons get indirect employment in kitchen, housekeeping, etc. This unit not only provides them employment but also equips them with vocational training so that they can seek employment in their villages or nearer home. Certain activities of the CPU are outsourced to unemployed or underemployed women from the neighboring villages. The CPU has now been operational for six years and is making a decent profit.
